Firefly (8): Shepherd Book

If you take sexual advantage of her, you're going to burn in a very special level of hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater.

So, weiter geht´s mit meiner Firefly-Session mit Shepherd Book, einem der geheimnisvolleren Charaktere am Schiff. Schade, dass nie wirklich rausgekommen ist, wer oder was er wirklich ist.

So, let´s continue my Firefly session with Shepherd Book, one of the more mysterious characters on the ship. It´s too bad his secret was never revealed.

So this is my version of the Shepherd. And I just couldn´t resist, I had to make the next picture too (for insiders only):

Nun fehlen also nur noch Simon und River. Ich kann echt noch nicht sagen, wann ich die Zeit finde, die beiden zu machen, aber sobald sie fertig sind, werde ich sie natürlich auch hier zeigen.

Now there are just Simon and River missing, and I can´t say, when I´ll find the time to make them, but as soon as they are finished, I´ll show them to you too.

Firefly (7): Inara Serra

A companion chooses her own clients, that´s guild law.

Inara ist nicht wirklich Teil der Crew, sondern mietet eines der Shuttles der Serenity und reist und lebt deshalb die meiste Zeit mit der Crew.
In meiner Vorstellung trägt Inara immer ein tiefrotes Kleid, obwohl ich weiß, dass das nicht stimmt, sie ist möglicherweise diejenige, mit den meisten unterschiedlichen Outfits. Wie auch immer, als ich angefangen habe, sie zu häkeln, hatte ich nicht genug rotes Garn (zumindest nicht im richtigen Rotton), und hab mich deshalb entschieden ihr ein Kleid in einem wunderschönen Lilaton zu machen. Und ich hab sogar ein Bild von der echten Inara gefunden, auf dem sie ein lilafarbenes Kleid trägt.

Inara is not really part of the crew, but she rents one of the shuttles of the Serenity and therefore travels and lives with the crew.
In my mind, Inara always wears a red dress, although I know that´s not true at all, she´s maybe the one with the most different outfits. However, when I started crocheting her, I didn´t have enough red yarn (not the right red anyway), so I decided to make her a dress in a beautiful purple tone. And I even found a picture of her, wearing a purple dress.

Firefly (6): Hoban "Wash" Washburne

I am a leaf on the wind - watch how I soar.

 

Wash ist der Pilot der Serenity und der Mann von Zoe, und meiner Meinung nach einer der Typen, die man einfach mögen MUSS (auch wenn er viel zu oft eins von diesen gräßlichen Hemden anhat). Vielleicht mag ich ihn auch deshalb so gern, weil ich den Schauspieler Alan Tudyk bereits von "Ritter aus Leidenschaft" kannte, und auch die Rolle die er dort spielte sehr mochte.

Wash is the pilot of the Serenity, husband of Zoe, and in my opinion, one of these guys you just HAVE TO like (although he is wearing these awful shirts a lot). Maybe I also like him due to the fact that I already knew the actor Alan Tudyk from the movie "A knights tale" and also liked the role he was playing there.

Leider sind mir die Blumen am Hemd nicht ganz so gut gelungen, aber immer noch erkennbar. Morgen ist Inara dran, und dann muss ich mal kurz eine kleine Pause einlegen, weil ich andere Verpflichtungen auch noch habe. Irgendwann muss ich schließlich mal wieder Geld verdienen gehen, nicht wahr?

Unfortunately the flowers on his shirt didn´t turn out that well, but still recognizable. Tomorrow it will be Inaras turn, and then I´ll have to pause a little, due to other duties. (One has to earn money from time to time, isn´t it?)

Firefly (5): Jayne Cobb

I´ll be in my bunk!

 

Jayne ist der Lieblingscharakter meiner größeren Hälfte. Er ist ein Söldner, ein bisschen einfach gestrickt, und immer bereit, draufloszuballern. Er hat eine riesige Waffensammlung und seine Lieblingswaffe hat sogar einen Namen: Vera. Er kann ziemlich gemein und aggressiv werden, aber irgendwie bringt er mich mit seinen Aktionen immer zum Lachen.

Jayne is the favourite character of my significant other. He´s a mercenary, a bit simple-minded, and always ready to shoot. He´s got a huge collection of weapons, and his favourite one is called Vera. He can be pretty mean, and aggressive, but somehow he´s always good for a laugh. 

Als ich ihn gemacht habe, war klar, dass er auf jeden Fall auch seine Haube bekommen muss. Er hat sie zwar nur in einer Folge auf, aber irgendwie ist sie so eine Art Markenzeichen für ihn. Außerdem gefällt mir der Gedanke, dass dieser Seht-mal-wie-cool-ich-bin-Typ eine selbstgestrickte Bommelmütze von seiner Mutter trägt. :-) Ob ihr es glaubt oder nicht, diese Haube war der schwierigste Teil, ich hab zuerst versucht, sie zu häkeln, aber war nicht zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis, und dann habe ich immer noch zwei Anläufe gebraucht um eine zu stricken, die mir auch gefällt.  

When I made him, it was clear that he also had to get his hat too. Although he wears it just in one episode, it´s somehow characteristic for him. By the way, I really like the thought, that this look-how-cool-I-am-guy wears a bobble hat knitted by his mom. :-) Believe it or not, this hat was the hardest part to do. First I tried to crochet it, but wasn´t satisfied, so I started again, knitting, but it took two attempts, until I finally liked what I produced.

Firefly (4): Zoe Washburne

 Things always get a little more complicated, don't they, sir? 

 

Heute kommt Zoe Washburne dran, die rechte Hand des Captains, eine toughe und loyale Soldatin. Sie ist die einzige, die den Captain regelmäßig "Sir" nennt, und sie ist mit dem Piloten der Serenity, Hoban "Wash" Washburne, verheiratet. 

Für mich persönlich ist Zoe natürlich ein wichtiger Charakter, sie gehört einfach dazu, aber sie ist mir ein bisschen zu ernst und zu tough, als dass ich sie tatsächlich mögen könnte. Wenn ich sie im echten Leben treffen würde, denke ich, wäre sie eher so etwas wie eine Chefin, oder eine Lehrerin, eine Frau, die ich respektiere, vielleicht ein bisschen fürchte, vielleicht ein bisschen bewundere, aber mit der ich niemals ein wirklich enges Verhältnis hätte.

 

So here comes Zoe Washburne, first mate on the ship, a tough and loyal soldier. She´s the only one who calls the captain "Sir", and she´s married to the pilot Hoban "Wash" Washburne. 

To me, Zoe is of course an important character, she just belongs, but she´s a bit too serious and too tough that I could actually really like her. 

If I would meet her in real life, I guess she would be to me like a boss or a teacher, someone I respect, maybe fear a little, maybe admire a little, but never get really close with.

Zoe war nicht wirklich schwer herzustellen, den sie verfügt gleich über zwei Merkmale, die es einfach machen, sie wiederzuerkennen: Ihre Hautfarbe und ihre Haare. Und Mann, diese Haare!!! Ich habe mindestens eine Stunde, wenn nicht länger, nur an diesen Haaren gearbeitet. Aber ich denke, es hat sich ausgezahlt. Ich finde, bis jetzt ist Zoe diejenige, die mir am besten gelungen ist.

Zoe wasn´t really difficult to make, she has two features that make it fairly easy to recognize her: her skin colour and her hair. And, oh, the hair!!! It took me at least an hour, if not more, just to make the hair. But in my opinion, it was really worth the effort. So far, I think Zoe is the one that turned out best.

Firefly (3): Kaywinnet Lee "Kaylee" Frye

I like to meet new people.They´ve all got stories.

 

Kaylee ist mein absoluter Liebling! Während meiner ganzen Firefly Recherche hab ich diesen Blogpost hier gefunden, in dem ein anderer Fan schreibt, warum sie sich mit Zoe (die kommt erst noch) verbunden fühlt. Nun, hier sind meine Gründe, warum es mir mit Kaylee so geht: 

Sie ist mit Abstand die fröhlichste und bunteste Person am Raumschiff, und sie ist leicht zu begeistern, für im Grunde alles. Das gefällt mir, weil ich mich selbst gern so sehen würde. 

Sie ist nicht unbedingt das typische Mädchen, zumindest nicht nach aussen hin, obwohl, hin und wieder ist sie es dann doch. 

Sie ist sehr romantisch veranlagt und leicht verletzt, auch wenn sie das nicht wirklich zugeben will. Tja, auch das kommt mir irgendwie bekannt vor. 

Und nicht zuletzt liebt sie ihren Job, so richtig, und das bewundere ich. 

Kaylee is definitely my favourite, I just love her. While doing my whole Firefly research, I found this blogpost, where another firefly fan explains why she relates to Zoe (a character I have yet to introduce). Well, here are my reasons, why I relate to Kaylee: 

She is by far the most cheerful and colorful on the ship, and easily thrilled by pretty much anything, and I really like that, because I like to see myself in this way.

She is not the typical girlie girl, at least not on the outside, although in fact, sometimes she is. :-) 

She is really romantic and easily hurt, although she doesn´t like to admit that. Well yes, sounds familiar.

And last but not least, she really loves what she´s doing for a living, and I admire that.  

Also für mich war ganz klar, gleich nach dem Captain kommt Kaylee dran, und ich bin mit dem Ergebis auch wirklich zufrieden. Süß, oder?

 

So it was perfectly clear to be, that Kaylee had to be the next, right after the captain. I´m really satisfied with how she turned out. Cute, isn´t she?

 

Firefly (2): Captain Malcom Reynolds

I do the job. And then I get paid.

 

Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds ist mein liebster männlicher Charakter am Raumschiff. Ich mag seinen Sarkasmus, seinen staubtrockenen Humor und abgesehen davon gefällt er mir auch optisch recht gut. Nachdem er immerhin der Captain ist, war er auch der erste, den ich gehäkelt habe. Ich bin mit dem Ergebnis nicht zu 100% zufrieden, aber seht selbst.

Malcom "Mal" Reynolds is my favourite male character on the ship. I like his sarcasm, his wry sense of humour and yes, also his looks ;-) Of course, as he is the Captain, he was the first one I crocheted. 
I am not a 100% satisfied with the result, but see for yourself:

Ich denke, die Farben, die ich verwendet habe, sind okay. Das Hemd ist in Wirklichkeit nicht ganz so grell, sondern hat eher eine dunkelorange, leicht ins bräunliche gehende Farbe. Eigentlich wollte ich ihm auch noch einen Mantel machen, aber das hat nicht wirklich geklappt, er hätte darin viel zu dick
ausgesehen. Ich bin nicht so ganz zufrieden mit den Haaren, die habe ich gehäkelt, aber mittlerweile habe ich eine andere Technik, um Haare zu machen, also werden meine Figuren nach und nach immer besser.

I think the colours I used, are okay. The shirt is not really that bright, but a dark orange-brownish colour. Actually I wanted to make him a brown coat as well, but that didn´t really turned out well, he would have looked way to corpulent in it. I´m not really satisfied with the hair, which I crocheted, but I already learned another technique of making hair, so yes, my figures are getting better ;-)

Firefly (1): Prelude

Wollt ihr wissen, was meine Lieblingsserie aller Zeiten ist? Firefly Obwohl (oder vielleicht auch gerade weil) es davon nur eine Staffel gibt, sowie einen Film, der ein paar der in der Serie aufgeworfenen Geheimnisse aufklärt. Ich könnte es mir einfach immer und immer wieder ansehen. Und im Grunde mach ich das auch.

 

Do you want to know what my favourite TV Show EVER is? Firefly. Although (or maybe even because) there is just one season, ten-something episodes, and one movie, which resolves some of the mysteries of the show, I don´t get tired watching it over and over again. And then again…

Für alle die es nicht kennen: Anschauen. Ich lasse euch einen Trailer hier (Englisch), aber um ehrlich zu sein, ist es wesentlich mehr als nur Krachbumm und so... Starke Charaktere, großartige Dialoge, spannender Plot... überzeugt euch einfach selbst. Bereits vor einiger Zeit habe ich mir gedacht, dass es toll wäre meine eigene Firefly Crew zu häkeln. Einfach nur für mich und zu meinem eigenen Vergnügen. Ich hab das Internet befragt und gesehen, dass ich mal wieder nicht die erste bin, die diese Idee hatte, da draussen tummeln sich mehr häkelnde Nerds, als man annehmen möchte. ;-)

For all of you who don´t know it, go watch it, I´ll leave a trailer here, but really, it´s much more than just that. Strong characters, hilarious dialogues, exciting plot… convince yourself.

Quite a while ago already I had the idea that I could crochet my own firefly crew. Just for me and my personal amusement. I checked the internet and saw that I wouldn´t be the first one to do so, there are more crochet nerds out there, than you would think. ;-)

Vor ein paar Monaten bin ich dann auf die Deviantart Seite von Kati aka lunascrafts gestossen. Ich finde ihre Sachen einfach großartig, ihre Liebe zum noch so kleinsten Detail und ihre lebensechten Tiere - toll! Als ich mir ihre Bilder so angesehen habe, hatte ich das Gefühl, dass sie nicht nur eine sehr talentierte Häkelkünstlerin ist, sondern auch die gleichen Dinge mag, wie ich (Game of Thrones, Terry Pratchett und Firefly, um nur ein paar zu nennen). Also habe ich sie einfach mal angeschrieben, und es hat sich herausgestellt, dass sie Ungarin ist. (Für alle, die es nicht wissen, zufällig studiere ich Ungarisch...). Wir haben also ein paar E-Mails hin und her geschrieben und beschlossen unseren eigenen kleinen Firefly-Crochet-Along zu veranstalten. 

A couple of months ago, I found the deviantart page of Kati aka lunascrafts, and I immediately admired her work, her exact and detailed dolls and her lifelike animals. While watching her pictures, I had the feeling that she´s not only a gifted crochet artist, but also seems to like the same things as me (Game of Thrones, Terry Pratchett and Firefly, just to mention a few), so I decided to write to her. It turned out that she is Hungarian (in case you didn´t know, I happen to study Hungarian). We exchanged a couple of e-mails and decided to start our own little crochet-along of firefly figures. 

Allerdings war Kati wesentlich schneller als ich (ihr könnt hier ein Bild ihrer gesamten Crew sehen), und nachdem mein Handgelenk mal wieder nicht ganz so wollte wie ich, konnte ich leider in den letzten Wochen nicht so viel häkeln, wie ich eigentlich wollte. Gestern war aber mein Geburtstag und ich habe beschlossen, mir selbst ein kleines Geschenk zu machen, und die Crew endlich fertig zu stellen. Fünf hab ich fertig, vier fehlen noch.

Um nicht nur die Serie, die Schauspieler und den Produzenten, sondern auch mein eigenes kleines Kunstwerk angemessen zu würdigen, habe ich beschlossen, jedem einzelnen Charakter einen eigenen Blogpost zu widmen. Ich erkläre diese Woche hiermit zu meiner ganz privaten Firefly-Woche! 

Only that Kati was much quicker than I was (you can see a picture of her whole crew here), and due to my wrist, which is not always working as I want it to, I wasn´t able to crochet too much over the last couple of weeks. Yesterday was my birthday though and I decided to make myself a little present and finally finish the crew.

Five finished, four more to go. To honour not only the show, the actors and the producer, but also my little piece of art here, I decided to dedicate each character an own blogpost, and hereby declare this week to my own private firefly week!
